CHARACTER OF THE JOB:

(nature, scope and organizational relationships)

 

Report to the Retail Director; responsible for selecting and  negotiating the purchase of merchandise to be sold at all retail venues; responsible for merchandise fulfillment, vendor accountability, maintenance of all inventory records including assigning, analyzing and maintaining all retail sku?s to meet or exceed departmental budget.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.  Responsible for the annual buying plan using a Plano gram format with specific placement recommendations designed to maximize sales. Works with retail managers to maintain up to date fixture inventory and Plano gram in each store.

 

2.  Generate weekly and monthly in-depth reports that monitor category/sku productivity (units sold, COGS and GMROI) with action plans that continually improve financial performance per department/category on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. Determine profitability per face out, turn and ensure budgeted per cap and revenue goals are fulfilled. Monitor, analyze and make sku adjustment recommendations of buying plan based on that information throughout the year to maximize profitability.

 

3.  Keeps a flow of fresh new merchandise coming into inventory while maintaining appropriate level of established merchandise and proven best sellers within budgeted guidelines using an open to buy procedure.

 

4.  Review physical inventory count of 25 predetermined sku?s on a quarterly basis with at least one sku represented form each category. Submit inventory results to Retail Director and Finance Director.

 

5.  Attend appropriate trade shows and meet with vendors throughout the year to keep current on the latest merchandise offerings.  Need to have very strong negotiating capabilities to ensure and negotiate best pricing, shipping costs and terms with vendors. 

 

 

6.  Assure that all required record keeping is properly documented including sku information, purchase orders, receipt of purchase orders and inventory control.

 

7.  Work with all retail outlets to monitor damage reports and the budget implications of ?breakage /shrink? which impact reorder decisions. 

 

 

8. Attend all training programs and demonstrate an ongoing understanding of exhibits, programs, visitor information and policies/procedures. Master all required responsibilities of the position.

 

9.  Work as a member of the team within the Retail division and the rest of the  cast. Effectively communicate to the rest of the team information that is relevant to the shopping experience.

 

10.  Maintain excellent working relationships with all  personnel and contribute to a work environment that is satisfying, enjoyable, and energetic.

 

11. When necessary and/or periodically act as one of the Retail Store front line staff within the Retail Store, taking on all the responsibilities of an employee assigned to a specific position in the Retail Store. 

 

12. Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Retail Director(s).

4. Ability to work as a member of a team.

5. Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays.

6. Good communication and computer skills necessary. Must have a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and POS software.

 

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug testing and background investigation

2. No allergy to plants or animals which may interfere with ability to work

3. Ability to lift/ push/pull up to 50 pounds

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

BA degree in related field and 4 years relevant experience. Must demonstrate strong leadership, vendor negotiation and management skills. Retail buying experience in area of merchandise sales a must.
