ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:
Leadership Responsibilities
1. SUPERVISE AND COORDINATE ACTIVITIES by
supervising associates; establishing high performance standards; insuring adherence to laws, regulations and Stein Mart?s policies and procedures; encouraging cooperation across departments to increase productivity; emphasizing the importance of reaching work objectives to meet deadlines; assigning/delegating tasks; prioritizing and allocating resources (people, materials) to reach department/store goals; arranging formal events such as, promotions for holidays and special sales; revising plans to account for changed circumstances.
2. TRAIN AND DEVELOP STORE STAFF by
providing information and on the job training opportunities to include demonstrating procedures, appreciating different learning styles and exhibiting patience; creating confidence among those learning new skills; evaluating and appraising the work of others in progress and on completion; following up to ensure that associates complete Stein Mart training programs (i.e. Cashier Training, Basic Sales Training, New Hire Orientation); considering appropriate staff development action; assessing individuals for performance and promotion.
3. DEVELOP EFFECTIVE SELECTION AND RECRUITING SKILLS by
completing the Behavioral Interviewing Program to learn how to conduct a legal and effective interview; participating in recruiting, interviewing and selecting employees; working with the Regional/District Manager, Store Manager and other Assistant Manager?s to develop recruiting plans that serve the store?s unique market.
4. USE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE by
listening to associate?s issues and resolving disputes; pointing out standards of work performance that need improving and providing constructive feedback; clarifying discrepancies on policies and procedures; giving verbal warnings in order to correct behavior; issuing formal warnings (in conjunction with the Store Manager); following up on performance improvement results.
5. DECISION MAKING by
compiling all relevant information to include the input of others; making decisions after thorough evaluation; making informed decisions under time pressure; making judgements on costs, damages, markdowns, stock levels, merchandise quality discrepancies, budget issues and customer service situations.

6. PROVIDE INFORMATION AND MAINTAIN COMMUNICATION by
giving constructive feedback both verbally and in writing to associates; informing associates about company and store policies; answering questions; listening to Associate?s grievances; implementing Stein Mart?s open door policy; providing ongoing communication to the store management team; reporting information accurately(both written and verbal) about issues as necessary to: Store Management, District/Regional Managers, Receiving, Cash Office, Loss Prevention, Corporate Buyers and Accounting.

7. MARKETING AND MERCHANDISING by
becoming knowledgeable of Stein Mart?s advertising philosophy, promotions and MGM?s; participating in placing merchandise and displays; following up with Department Managers and Visual Display Associates to ensure that merchandise is creatively placed for maximum appeal; checking that work is completed to a set standard, for example: written and verbal instructions are followed to assure that appropriate visual displays, merchandise and signs are set correctly; following up to assure that markdowns are taken correctly.
8. ENSURE HIGH QUALITY STORE PRESENTATION by
checking points of detail with Department Managers to include: correct sign placement, creative displays, setting up for sales events, following schematics for setting departments; delegating and assisting with daily housekeeping tasks (i.e. floor maintenance and recovery, front of store presentation ? inside and outside, fitting rooms and restrooms).
9. PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE by
providing customer service on the selling floor as appropriate; modeling superior sales and customer service techniques for associates (i.e. handling transactions at the service desk); answering customer inquiries verbally about products, services and store policies; working closely with the Boutique Leader and staff to continually enhance Stein Mart?s service and reputation.

10. PREPARE SHORT TERM PLANS TO REACH OBJECTIVES by
planning a logical sequence of events or tasks, including setting priorities to reach objectives such as: preparing for promotions, holiday seasons, special sales and reaching department and store sale?s goals.
11. MAINTAIN OPTIMUM STORE STAFFING by
contributing to the store schedule by learning the Work Force Management System to include: Business Forecaster, Workforce Planner, Smart Scheduler and TKC; completing the weekly Work Force Management tasks to produce and edit schedules; performing the daily backup procedure for Kronos; following up on work flow results.

12. ESTABLISH A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF ALL CASH OFFICE PROCEDURES by
checking daily or performing (as needed) the sales audit procedures to include: balancing registers, preparing daily deposit and keying information into the system; reviewing reports for variances, for example: daily bank deposits, percentage discount, price override and the 1107 report; learning petty cash control procedures, personnel documentation to include benefits and payroll preparation; ordering supplies and keeping within the supply budget; paying store bills; developing proficiency in operating registers and all service desk transactions.
13. ENSURE AN EFFICIENT, SAFE AND SECURE RECEIVING DEPARTMENT by
working with Receiving Manager and Staff to reach department production goals; following up with the Receiving Manager as to the progress/status of the receiving and stockroom operations; preparing all necessary documentation in the department as required, for example: maintaining carrier records, processing RTV?s and transfers, preparing inventory evaluation reports; reporting N.O.F.s and receiver problems to MIS Help Desk; working with Receiving to ensure that safety and security procedures are being carried out.
14. CONTRIBUTE TO A SAFE AND SECURE STORE ENVIRONMENT by
working with the Management Team and Loss Prevention to implement all loss prevention procedures; following procedure when opening/closing the store; conducting surprise audits; setting electronic alarm systems as required; handling workers compensation situations; assisting with training and education of Stein Mart?s loss prevention procedures.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) required. Associates or Bachelors Degree Preferred. 2 to 4 years applicable retail work experience, including a minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
Technical Skills: Fashion merchandising skills, numeric reasoning to include proficiency in: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and calculating percentages.
Behavioral Attributes: Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Should exhibit a strong interest in working with people. Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in a supervisory capacity. Results oriented; willingness to follow through, make informed decisions, complete tasks and problem-solve. Should enjoy change/variety in work and thrive on creating novel solutions. Exhibited attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.
Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort required. Standing and walking will constitute 95% of a work shift. Stooping and lifting various merchandise contents of up to 20 lbs. or more on an as needed basis.
Travel Requirements: A minimal amount of travel may be required.
Preferred: Computer keyboard knowledge and experience using a computer in a windows environment
