Associate Buyer

Job Description: Under the direction of a Senior Buyer, the Associate Buyer is a key player in the total Michaels Merchandising organization. Associate Buyers are responsible for maintaining the departmental advertising process by ordering and coordinating ad samples from vendor to advertising, prepare advertising sales projections.  Setting up test vendors and test items.  Analyzing test results and recommending future plans to buyer.  Work with Senior Buyer or Buyer to set up new vendors and new sku's. Reviewing planogram productivity. Recommending new product and product for discontinuations. Negotiate markdown money, returns, etc. with vendors.  Attending and participating at trade shows
 
Primary Responsibilities:
·  Development and Coordination of Planogram process with Buyers
·  Work with advertising Process: Ad Projections and AOG proof and completion
·  Handling Purchase Orders by tracking through the process to ensure it's completed in a timely manner
·  Database maintenance (Item information & Pricing)
·  Partner with Inventory Management on inventory planning
·  Vendor Communication and negotiations
·  Attending Trade Shows
 
Other Responsibilities: 
·  Customer and Vendor Service / Providing Telephone coverage 
·  Mail and Fax Distribution 
·  Import Process or Seasonal Process (depending on department assigned to) 
·  Miscellaneous administrative and general office duties, as needed 
 
 

Job Requirements:
·  Four-year college degree preferred, degree in merchandising a plus
·  2-3 years experience in a retail corporate experience preferred
·  Retail operations experience a plus
·  Proficient in MS Word and Excel
·  Must have an extremely strong work ethic, be results-driven and highly motivated
·  Strong oral and written communication skills
·  Strong problem solving skills
·  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with several departments and vendors
·  Must have the flexibility to work lengthy days if/when necessary
·  Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
