Promotional Planning Analyst

The first Family Dollar store was opened in Charlotte, NC in 1959. It was a relatively small, self-service operation located in a neighborhood convenient to low and middle income consumers. The merchandise assortment featured basic goods for family and home needs, and the no frills, low overhead, cash-and-carry environment provided good value at the lowest price points. As new stores opened in the early years of the Company's existence, it became clear that this merchandising concept filled a niche in the marketplace and held great promise for supporting a chain of much larger size.



This position will assist the Director of Promotional Planning with various task associated with monthly promotional planning process.  The Promotional Planning Analyst will work closely with buying teams to ensure that all promotional planning deadlines are met and will provide analytical support to assist the Buyers with their promotional decisions.
Assist Buyers in understanding and maximizing benefit from promotional planning recommendations
Manage the tools and processes required to optimize promotional activity
Partner with Marketing and Merchandising to best interpret and draw insights from existing data sources
Monitor promotional forecasts and report monthly promotional performance (e.g. sell-through, market basket, sales, etc.)
Set up and approve markdown promotions—measure and report on financial impact to the business
Set up ad bulletins, page/block ads, submit any products with markdowns and compile ad results at end of ad
Schedule and actively participate in all promotional planning meetings
Ensure the promotional prices match the event prices in Retek—manage pricing conflicts
Build and maintain fact sheet / submittal files for all promotional planning vehicles
Maintain competitive ads in binders/files by month/week/retailer
Manage the assembly and delivery of all monthly planning packets including the Promotional Planner


Familiarity with promotional planning and/or marketing
Bachelor's Degree or years of equivalent experience
Professional background at a retailer and/or marketing technology company
Proven ability to develop partnerships and collaborate across functions and across business divisions
Works effectively with varying levels of ambiguity
Ability to multi-task and set priorities across a broad range of projects
Excellent communication to different levels in the organization, with solid presentation skills
Ability and pre-disposition to learn advanced query tools for circular and customer level data-mining and analysis
