JOB PURPOSE: Maintain an efficient, safe and secure Receiving Department by
Unloading Merchandise from Carriers
Directing Receiving and Stockroom Operations
Supervising Associates
Staffing Department and Developing Associates
ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:
1. RECEIVE MERCHANDISE by
unloading trucks; counting boxes to verify receipt is the same as indicated on the packing slip; pulling all packing slips to give to the Receiving Administrator to prepare receivers and tickets.
2. SUPERVISE AND DIRECT by
directly supervising associates at work; insuring adherence to laws, regulations and Stein Mart?s policies and procedures; providing on the job training and development for associates; encouraging cooperation within and between departments to increase productivity; emphasizing the importance of reaching work objectives to meet deadlines.
3. IMPLEMENT AND COORDINATE DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES by
assigning/delegating tasks to associates; assuring that merchandise is checked in, ticketed and delivered to the proper staging or selling area on a daily basis; prioritizing and allocating resources (people, materials) to reach department and/or store goals such as preparing for: special promotions, holidays and special sales; processing RTVs and transfers in a timely manner.
4. PROVIDE ONGOING COMMUNICATION by
informing associates about company and store policies; providing ongoing communication to the store management team; giving accurate information both verbal and written about issues as necessary to: Receiving Associates, Store Management, Receiving Administrator, Loss Prevention and Corporate MIS Department and Buying Staff.
5. MAINTAIN PHYSICAL CONDITION OF RECEIVING AREA by
ensuring high standards of housekeeping are achieved throughout the stockroom and receiving area; making seasonal changes in the stockroom as needed (i.e. seasonal changes in receiving to accommodate higher volume merchandise flow for the Christmas selling season); inspecting and completing preventative maintenance of equipment (i.e. freight elevator, freight conveyor belts, rolling racks, pallet jacks and dollies); coordinating repair or replacement of equipment as authorized.
6. PROMOTE AND MAINTAIN SAFE AND SECURE WORKING ENVIRONMENT by
training staff on safety and loss prevention procedures; ensuring safety and loss prevention policies and procedures are being carried out; assuming responsibility for security of the receiving back doors to ensure the doors are locked and/or alarmed at all times except when unloading trucks; following manufacturer?s standards of use for equipment; advising management on needed actions or changes relating to receiving operations.
7. MAINTAIN OPTIMUM DEPARTMENT STAFFING by
completing the Behavioral Interviewing Program to learn how to conduct a legal and effective interview; participating in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, orienting and training employees; contributing to the department schedule and the Work Force Management System by providing information on associate?s permanent and temporary availability; following up on work flow results.
8. TRAIN AND DEVELOP RECEIVING ASSOCIATES by
coaching, counseling, monitoring and appraising job results; providing ongoing training and development for associates; making commendations for superior job performance; pointing out standards of work performance that need improving and providing constructive feedback; giving verbal warnings to correct behavior; issuing formal warnings (in conjunction with the Assistant Manager and/or General Manager).
9. PREPARE INVENTORY REPORTS AND MAINTAIN HISTORICAL DATA by
documenting production output and preparing reports as required; maintaining carrier records as required; reporting N.O.F.s and receiver problems to MIS Help Desk; completing forms accurately and legibly; filing information.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent (GED). 1 to 2 years experience in receiving management.
Technical Skills: Numeric reasoning to include proficiency in: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and calculating percentages.
Behavioral Attributes: Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Should exhibit strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in a supervisory capacity. Results oriented; willingness to follow through, make informed decisions and complete tasks.
Physical Requirements: Heavy physical effort required. Routine lifting of 20 lbs. or more. Walking, standing, stooping, reaching and lifting will constitute 100% of a work shift. Use of equipment to include but not limited to: freight elevator, freight conveyor belt, rolling racks, pallet jacks, hand carts, ladders, dollies, calculator and computer keyboard.
Preferred: Computer keyboard knowledge and experience using a computer in a windows environment.
