Retail Department/ Assistant Manager

The Paper Store is a family owned and operated chain of card and gift stores in the greater Boston area, with corporate headquarters in Acton, MA.  These are not your average gift & card stores! Our stores are approximately 10,000 to 15,000 square feet.

Our business began in 1963 when Bob Anderson purchased his first store in Maynard, Massachusetts. Originally a stationery store, our merchandise has grown to include beautiful gifts and collectibles, Vera Bradley handbags, Yankee Candles, best selling books for all ages, and educational toys, as well as custom invitations for all occasions, gourmet chocolates, balloons, magazines and newspapers and so much more!

We consider each department a store within a store, complete with well informed associates that are happy to help customers find the perfect gift or answer a question. Forty-three years later we are proud to boast twenty-one stores, with continued growth in the future.  Our stores are dedicated to customer service above all else, a rare find with today's trend of superstores.

 

Department Manager Position:

  The successful candidate for this position will have the ability to take complete ?ownership? for a particular department within the store (there are five main departments in each store: Gifts, Books, Stationary/Custom Printing, Hallmark, Toys). Each department is run as a ?mini-store? within a store. The department manager is responsible for everything that occurs in that ?mini-store? i.e. merchandising, inventory control, receiving, communication with upper management and corporate staff, communication with fellow associates and customers, promotional support, opening/closing store, all operational processes and managing staff.

  The ability to exceed customer expectations while doing all of the above is the most important aspect of this position. Interacting with and satisfying our customers takes precedence over everything else that we do at The Paper Store.
