Retail General Ledger Clerk

POSITION PURPOSE: Performs the daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts and produces financial statements for designated markets and/or cost centers within a division, or for specialized functions such as accounts receivable or franchisee financial statements. Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations/trial balances and researches and explains variances. Participates in the monthly close cycle, reviews EOM reports (including exception reports) and communicates with other departments and field operations to resolve issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Utilizing Oracle, prepares and enters journal entries, generates journal reversals, and monitors status of journal entry posting. Prepares journal entries using a spreadsheet allocation for upload into Oracle (ADI).
2. Requests standard reports and/or requests report sets. Utilizes Oracle, Oracle Discoverer and FDS to generate reports as required for special requests, and to view for financial analysis as required.
3. Utilizing Oracle, inquires about the status of account activity and account balances, and updates screen profiles.
4. Monitors and verifies validity of entries uploaded into Oracle from legacy systems such as cash, merchandise, payroll, fixed assets, taxes, etc., for assigned locations and/or accounts. Reviews month-end reports and summaries generated from these systems such as the cost of sales schedule, 55A and 55C exception reports, etc. Works with other accounting subgroups to resolve errors, problems and corrections.
5. Routinely responds to inquiries from operation personnel including market managers, field consultants, store managers, franchisees, merchandise accounting and outside vendors. Researches and seeks resolution of issues.
6. Maintains, organizes and files reports from legacy systems in an orderly manner for immediate referral as well as other source accounting documents such as journal entries, correction notifications, etc.
7. Performs month-end close for assigned area/function. Reviews reports, keys correcting entries, and explains unusual activity to Senior Accounting Supervisor.
8. Reconciles assigned accounts and prepares appropriate reconciliation reports and trial balances and performs appropriate follow-up to clear balances remaining in the accounts as required. Prepares and presents trial balance and account reconciliation reports in formal meetings with Senior Accounting Supervisor.
9. Prepares and provides financial data and appropriate support as requested for use by both internal and external auditors.
10. Processes various deposits, including franchise investment deposits and equity deposits.
11. Performs other related duties as requested by management.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a high school education or equivalent plus additional accounting-related courses and 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably field accounting in a franchise environment. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position requires computer skills to create standardized documents using word processing and spreadsheet software and to key data into and generate standardized reports from Oracle general ledger system. Position requires a moderate degree of skill for frequent operation of office equipment (50-60 wpm typing).
