Job Description

The Sales Manager is responsible for developing a positive Petland culture on the sales floor that results in a team of Pet Counselors delivering the Petland Mission.  The General Manager is responsible for the performance of the entire store ? to ensure high standards of customer service, animal husbandry, presentation, sales performance and profits.

 

Job Requirements

?  Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

?  Ability to follow operating systems and directions from supervisors.

?  Flexibility and stamina to work retail hours.

?  Ability to perform basic math skills.

?  Ability to work with a team of employees as well as other department heads to ensure that business goals are met.

?  Ability to understand financial statements (General Manager)

?  Must be able to comfortably and repetitively lift 25 lbs.

 

Responsibilities

Maintain high levels of customer service and sales through Pet Counselors (Sales and General Manager)

?  Must teach, educate, influence, persuade, motivate and develop Pet Counselors.

?  Must have a floor presence and constantly direct Pet Counselors toward customer interaction.

?  Must maintain a high standard of appearance and professionalism for ones self and staff by maintaining good hygiene and the Petland uniform.

?  Ensure that employees maintain strong customer counts, high average tickets and dollars per hour through; monitoring, use and review of employee scorecards.

?  Monitor and affect sales by department and sub-department, as well as the ratios between pets and the corresponding supplies.

?  Positively affect staff morale and culture for both sales performance and community relationships.

?  Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

Maintain high level of animal husbandry and cleanliness through staff, particularly the Kennel and Fish Department Managers (General Manager)

?  Ensure all opening, daily, and closing procedures are followed flawlessly in all animal departments through the use of a procedural checklist resulting in complete cleanliness.

?  Maintain a strong relationship with the store?s consulting veterinarian to ensure excellent care of the pets.

 

Maintain a well-merchandised store through the staff, particularly the Inventory Control Manager (General Manager)

?  Use Point of Sales systems for accurate inventories and for proper and effective ordering.

?  Keep all merchandise priced, neat, clean and fronted.

?  Effectively sign and display end caps, kits, stack outs, valences and specials.

 

Maintain Business Monitors, paperwork and recordkeeping and staff scheduling (General Manager)

?  Analyze a variety of inventory and sales reports from the POS to improve business performance.
