Director of Business Development & Sales

The Company

 

CertiChem is the leader in developing and providing in-vitro assays for hormonal activity, especially estrogenic activity. Almost all cosmetics, plastics, silicones, and food antioxidants release estrogenic activity that significantly disrupts mammalian hormonal systems, including those of humans. CertiChem sells assays to test for estrogenic activity, and provides solutions to eliminate estrogenic activity from products such as those identified above. Published scientific research in the last five to ten years has consistently shown that estrogenic activity causes many abnormalities in mammals (including humans), such as infertility, weight gain, fetus mortality, cancer, type II diabetes, and increased rates of sexual maturation and homosexual preference.

 

CertiChem clients include plastic makers, chemical producers, retailers of plastics or foodstuffs, medical supply firms, producers of baby products, and cosmetics producers, among others. The company is poised for significant growth from sales of services to these prospective clients, and seeks applicants for Director of Business Development & Sales. 

 

 

The Position



Reporting Relationships

The Director of Business Development & Sales will report directly to the CEO. As sales growth justifies, this person can have additional representatives as direct reports.

 

General Responsibilities

This position serves as a primary liaison between CertiChem and its customer base.  The successful candidate will be responsible for business development and sales. That is, this person will be responsible for conducting sales activities (including prospecting), recruiting new customers, qualifying leads, providing quotes, doing all follow-up necessary to close sales, attending tradeshows, and conducting on-site client visits and presentations as necessary. Other responsibilities will include preparing sales plans, meeting annual sales goals, and maintaining a sales budget.  In collaboration with the CEO, this individual will also be responsible for gathering market and competitive intelligence, developing marketing plans and programs, promotional activities, and modifying sales strategies.

 

Specific Responsibilities

?  Developing and executing sales and marketing strategies to achieve revenue goals

?  Setting budgets

?  Maintaining detailed knowledge of the company's products and keeping abreast with competitive landscape

?  Working with the CEO to develop innovative marketing programs

?  Communicating with customers, which includes selling and providing presentations to clients

?  Maintaining loyalty from existing customers through visits and tradeshows

?  Calling on potential customers to win new markets

?  Contacting clients to negotiate terms of agreements and using persuasion skills to conclude the sale

?  Continuing to evaluate market conditions and market opportunity for existing and new services

 

Travel

Required; approximately 20% to 30%

 

 

The Candidate Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree with strong business and biology coursework preferred; with a minimum of 5 years? successful sales experience.

 Personal Characteristics  ?  Strong leadership skills ?  Excellent communication skills, including face-to-face, electronic, and telephone ?  Self-driven and results-oriented; able to work with minimal supervision?  Mature, credible and comfortable in dealing with senior executives, even in large firms

?  Well-organized and proficient at multi-tasking

?  Well-presented and businesslike

 

?  Proven track record of local sales success and business development
