Responsible for the punctual delivery of all shipments, directs the activities
of Smurfit-Stone drivers or the cartage contractor in dispatching loads
economically. Prepare shipments in advance and assign them to trucks,
transports or freight cars for dispatch Ensure bills of lading for all shipments
are properly prepared Ensure that manufactured goods are delivered and a signed
bill of lading is obtained Direct the duties of checkers, loaders and unitizer
operator Check the accuracy of all shipments as to count and destination in
comparison with specifications Determine the most economical transport to use
for out-of-town shipments and arrange for pick-up Possess working knowledge of
loading/unloading trailers Consult with planning and superintendents as to
expected volume and urgency of delivery on orders and arrange for necessary
transport Answer telephone queries on deliveries from Customer Service or
directly from customers and, when special instructions are made, may call
customer to arrange for shipment Able to communicate effectively with customers
Take monthly inventory of goods on floor Handle grievances and discipline under
the Labor Agreement Ensure good housekeeping practices and safety rules are
followed Ensure an adequate supply of pallets, tops and other such items are
ordered and maintained in good condition Perform other duties as assigned It is
