Solexa, Inc. is developing and preparing to commercialize the Solexa Genome Analysis System, which will be used to perform a range of analyses including whole genome re-sequencing, gene expression analysis and micro-RNA analysis. Solexa-US is looking for a Supply Chain Manager / Sr. Manager for our Hayward, CA facility to be an integral partner on our ground floor pre-commercialization Operations team.
Scope of position: includes managing the purchasing, planning, shipping/receiving, inventory control, supplier contracts, traffic compliance, sales order validation, and MRP operations.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
? Identify and select transportation companies best suited for handling shipment of the company's products. Selection criteria include capabilities related to size, weight, fragility of products, regional/geographic presence of carriers, expertise in processing international shipments, special transit requirements for the company's products, carrier reputation, reliability, and cost
? Review and validate customer orders. Identify/clarify crucial order information to allow for accurate order fulfillment (product ordered, quantity, price, delivery and payment terms, contact information, ship-to detail).
? Generate required shipping documents and coordinate shipment preparation activities (Air bill, Shipper's Letter of Instruction, special labeling). Communicate shipment detail to selected carrier, schedule shipment, and follow up on transit progress)
? For international shipments, determine product export classification (Schedule "B" code, Harmonized Tariff System "HTS" code), customs value, responsibility for taxes/duties, applicable INCOTERMS. Generate commercial invoice for customs. File "Shipper's Export Declaration" via US Gov't "AES Direct" on-line system (when required)
? Determine Order Entry/Administration capability of existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Study ERP procedures related to sales order processing. Once functionality has been established, maintain basic customer information in the ERP sales module, enter customer orders, and process shipping transactions to enable invoicing
? Establish process for filling requests from the Field Organization/Tech Support. Enable efficient communication and quick response time
Qualifications Desired:
? Bachelor Degree in Inventory Management, Operations Management or Purchasing with an MBA preferred
? A minimum of 5 years of Supply Chain Management experience in a manufacturing and engineering environment
? Minimum of 10 years of steadily increasing responsibility in Procurement, or combination of Planning and other general Operations disciplines
? An in-depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes, ERP, MRPII and statistical forecasting systems is required along with a demonstrated understanding of purchasing practices, supply chain management practices, bills of material and knowledge of material control scheduling
? Must have strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, team development, and technical skills along with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of management within and outside the company
? Ability to make decisions in a fast paced environment, meeting tight deadlines
? Able to move flexibly from tactical to strategic thinking and performance within a very dynamic environment and constantly changing schedules and priorities
? Anticipates and resolves issues involving new product ramps, material shortages, quality problems, component costs, and sourcing strategies
? Implements solutions to high dollar problems such as material shortages, rejected material, invoice discrepancies, missed schedules, and other revenue impacting problems
? Demonstrated aptitude for negotiating complex supply agreements with supplier sales, management and executive teams
