IMPORT Transportation Manager

The Import Transportation Manager is responsible for managing all transportation activity, logistics and expenses associated with the movement of all imported freight into our network of multiple distribution centers. This includes both the shipments of product direct from the suppliers as well as shipments from our own consolidation warehouse in Asia. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and improving procedures to ensure that all imported shipments are processed in a cost-effective manner while meeting required arrival and in-warehouse expected dates. Included in the responsibilities is the annual review of ocean freight rates as well as negotiation with freight forwarders and drayage companies to maximize efficient delivery in the most cost effective manner. Strong analytical skills are required in our ongoing effort to maintain accurate shipping costs per item and landed costs per item, shipment and vendor.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

? Carrier selection and rate negotiation.
? Management of freight forwarders, customer brokers and related transportation agencies for all overseas shipments.
? Perform cost analysis on all carriers and negotiate all rates.
? Establishing and maintaining information on actual landed product costs and other applicable costs per product, vendor or shipment.
? Consolidation of LTFL shipments, when applicable.
? Provide container traffic updates weekly to the Purchasing department.
? Coordinate with customs broker to ensure shipments are cleared and released expeditiously upon arrival at port.
? Authorize freight forwarders and drayage companies to route goods in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
? Coordinate, schedule and monitor container deliveries for supplier-direct shipments with the receiving departments of all Distribution Centers nationwide.
? Coordinate, schedule and monitor container shipments and deliveries from our consolidation warehouse in Asia directly to our Distribution Centers in the US.
? Analyze and approve all ocean freight and drayage invoices and prepare monthly cost reports (actual-to-budget, actual freight to cost of goods per product, per shipment and/or per vendor, etc).
? Provide complete and accurate documentation for all cargo bookings.
? Accuracy and review of the classification of all goods with US Customs (Harmonized Codes).


Requirements:

? Must have prior experience in the Import Transportation industry and understand all import regulations.
? A working knowledge of distribution and business practices in the Asia-Pacific region is preferred.
? Strong analytical skills including the understanding of landed costs by product.
? Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
? Self-starter, capable of working independently.
? Building and maintaining strong vendor relations.
? Experience in the management of domestic carriers for inbound and outbound domestic shipments is not required, but is considered a plus.
? The candidate would have to apply the concepts and methods from common business practices and be proficient in problem solving and project management.
