Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager serves as the liaison between external partners and internal groups within Nortel including Sales, Marketing and Product Management and Engineering. Your responsibility will be to identify, negotiate and manage relationships with partners whose objectives and product/service offerings complement Nortel?s short and long-term vision.
In this position, you will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing and pursuing new and existing opportunities with partners focused on Security and Application Intelligence. The role requires an ability to quickly understand new technologies and business models and be able to evaluate their relevance to Nortel?s overall vision. Likewise, as a Business Development Manager, you will be expected to generate original ideas and initiatives that capitalize on the strengths of existing and prospective partners to drive substantive, additional benefits to Nortel. You will be responsible in building business relationship with partners to increase sales of Nortel enterprise products and particularly security and Application Intelligence products.
The Business Development Manager will play an integral role in the success of the security and network intelligence group. Specific responsibilities include:
??Managing day-to-day relationships with strategic partners and developing a deep understanding of their products/services and long-term business strategies.
??Negotiating and closing complex deals that benefit Nortel, our partners and our clients, including OEM agreements, reseller agreements, referral agreements and co-marketing agreements.
??Working with Finance, Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Sales and other internal departments to understand their strategic priorities and creatively identify partnership opportunities to support those priorities.
??Building business plans and models which demonstrate the financial potential for partner opportunities.
??Establishing metrics to analyze and track performance of partner initiatives.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
??Ability to succeed in a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization, as both a team player and an individual contributor.
??Willingness to champion innovation and challenge the status quo in order to drive significant increases in high-margin, recurring revenue.
??Familiarity with networking, security and application switching technology business.
??At least 5-7 years of strategic alliance or business development experience in the telecommunication industry.
??Proven ability to negotiate and close complex technology business deals.
??Affinity for building, managing and enhancing win-win business relationships.
??Hands on experience with developing and launching new products/services/distribution channels.
??Capacity to understand the big picture while maintaining a penchant for detail.
??Experience in higher education and/or online education markets is a plus.
??Bachelor?s degree in a business discipline, computer science or technical engineering. MBA preferred. Equivalent work experience highly considered.
