Data Cable Technician


Job Responsibilities:

Test Cat-6 cable connectivity from patch panel port to faceplate. Validate the accuracy of labeling at the patch panel, faceplate and both ends of the data cable. Accurately document and record cable test results and changes to construction documents.



Job Requirements:


Detailed Knowledge of the current range of methods, technologies, and equipment associated with the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of voice and data cabling. Detailed knowledge and associated skill regarding the installation and maintenance of CAT-6 cabling. Skills in the appropriate performance of testing and troubleshooting procedures to validate connectivity from patch panel to faceplate. Knowledge of industry safety standards including working close to close to electrical circuitry and utilizing a variety of installation tools. Detailed knowledge of standard industry methods and nomenclature pertaining to telecommunications engineering. Detailed knowledge of 24/48 port patch panels and activation of voice and data ports. Skill in the ability to read and accurately record detailed information on construction drawings and Cable Management Records. Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information to audiences of varied background, degree of technical expertise, and level of authority. Interpersonal skills to work with equal effectiveness with peers, management, administrative and academic customers, and vendors. Valid California driver?s license with no work-related driving restrictions. Candidates must be professional in appearance and communication.
