Data Maintenance Center (DMC) Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot the digital data network systems and services within the TelCove Data network.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participate in all aspects of the Data maintenance center circuit implementation, testing and operations functions. Install, monitor, maintain, fault isolate, and repair all equipment involved with digital data services. Supports Product development in the testing and implementation of new data products. Monitor data network and services for performance and alarms. Research network and customer trends to proactively monitor system hardware and software performance. Assist in implementing, testing and operating the development of data networks and control systems throughout the company's market.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Implement, test and operate Data Management Center (DMC) and all related systems and services to meet the company?s needs. Help the DMC Manager to perform research, analysis and interviews necessary to select appropriate trends, technologies, and vendors. Monitor and maintain data networks and systems for alarms and performance. Perform installation and testing of systems and services, and coordinate such installation and testing processes with customers, vendors and subordinates. Troubleshoot all problems associated with data networks and services offered by TelCove. Meet all direct measurements of quality standards for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of data services and related equipment. Keep all management levels informed as necessary. Develop DMC and Field operational procedures. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times. Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned or as they become evident.

Must be cap able of synthesizing complex subject matters and apply accumulated technical expertise to a variety of situations.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
High school diploma. Three years experience with troubleshooting and/or maintaining of data networks and systems as well as Windows based applications such as Word and Excel.

PREFERRED:
Experience with UNIX-based workstations. Knowledge of data network architectures (Ethernet, Token-Ring, FDDI, ATM), protocols (TCP/IP, NAT, DNS DHCP, MPLS, IDS, etc.), and hardware (bridges, routers, switches, etc.). Understanding of SONET networks and Cisco Certification (CCNA) would be a plus.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work in a rotating shift schedule environment (the DMC will be operational 7 days a week, 24 hours a day) and be available to cover for on call situations outside of regular scheduled working hours. Must be able to operate and install computers, as well as network hardware, software and relating cabling. Bending, reaching, lifting and climbing of ladders if required. The ability to effectively listen, understand and communicate in person, by telephone and through two-way radio and computer equipment is important to fulfilling the essential functions of the job.
