Position Description: Detroit Area Field Technician

Position Summary: The Detroit Area Field Technician will perform client site field installations, consisting of DSL loop testing and repair, inside wiring and router configurations. Repair and installation of T-1's and DSL equipment. Extensive knowledge, may necessarily handle more complex situations as they arise.

 

General Duties: Working independently:

● Trouble shooting customer problems including problems with dial tone, wiring,

jacks, long distance, dedicated circuits, high-speed circuits (TI and T3), DSL, and CPE

 

● Responsible for the testing and evaluating customer telecom applications on a presale basis, testing of new service as it is turned up, maintaining and adding services to existing customers

 

● Customer service-operations top priority is customer service

 

● Field technician will represent the Talk America team in front of the customers from a technical perspective, providing customer providing customer service requiring on site care

 

● Install and maintain all types of phone lines for business and residential customers

(POTS, DID, DOD, Ground/Loop Start, Centrex)

 

● Circuit testing of dedicated circuits such as T-l, 56k circuits, BRI lines, and DSL lines will also be a requirement knowledge and familiarity with advanced test equipment, such as TBERD test sets, as well as TDR test sets, and fiber optic testing equipment strongly desired

● Test and install DSL equipment

 

● Listen and diagnose customer issues at location

 

● Resolve customer problems to the satisfaction of the customer

 

●Carry out all routine and special assignments as directed by immediate supervisor

 

● Qualified individual should have working experience in telecommunication. This includes a working knowledge of how the local and long distance industry works

 

● Solid understanding of telecommunication wiring standards and the use of standard field telecommunication tools. In addition, the qualified candidate should have solid PC skills, good customer communication ability, and be self-motivated and detail oriented

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum 4 -7 years experience as a technician in a telecommunications environment. Extensive knowledge of testing equipment, digital meters and computer operating systems to resolve customer issues. In-depth knowledge and theory of router configurations. Digital carrier systems experience (CAC & DISC), Central Office relay rack identification pattern and usage of digital testing equipment. Ability to install and maintain all types of phone lines.

 

Must have solid communications, organization and prioritization skills. Able to work will with

others and interact respectfully with customers. Practice quality workmanship, excellent work

ethic and pride-in-ownership in the execution of all operating and maintenance duties including

the proper care of all Company property. Knowledge of customer premise wiring practices, safe

drilling and ladder practices. Able to work independently in fast paced environment. Maintain

Safe driving record.

Field technician will be issued a Talk America vehicle, as well as tools and supplies for performing their function. In addition, field technicians will have a charge card for vehicle fuel and maintenance. Talk America field technician will be responsible for maintaining current inventory of tools and supplies, keeping detailed vehicle maintenance and driving logs, and weekly written reports to the operation manager.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Field technical work requires the ability to work in tight spaces, and the ability to carry various test gear, working in outside conditions, climbing ladders, and use of tools, and equipment.

The incumbent in this position must have a valid driver?s license and proof of insurance.
