Field Engineer

You will work directly with customers to help them implement the SkyPilot products in their specific environment and applications. Projects will include technology trials in a variety of environments (hills, forests, ice/snow, etc), deployment planning and architecture, installation support, capacity planning, onsite field maintenance and network expansion. The individual who fills this role should have a positive, ?can do? attitude and be able to adjust dynamically to unforeseen circumstances in the field, all the while interacting with customers in a professional and courteous manner.

Role/Responsibilities:
- Assisting with pre-sales support; reviewing deployment and site installation plans; providing feedback on customer questions and issues
- Perform site surveys to determine appropriate hardware and software configurations
- Provide onsite installation and configuration support for customer; train customers on basic functionality of system; ensure system is operating within expected parameters
- Work with customers to scale their networks to meet the demands of their users
- Manage customer trials for new products and/or features
- Interface with product management on feature requests gathered from the field
- Interface with engineering on problem resolution and bug fixes
This position will involve domestic and international travel; between 25-50% of your time will be spent in the field.

- 3 to 5 years of applicable experience building and supporting large-scale networks
- Strong understanding of OSI layer 2 including wired and wireless LAN technologies (Ethernet, 802.11,802.16)
- Strong understanding of OSI layer 3 including TCP/IP networks, DHCP, SNMP, NAT, routing protocols
- Experience with similar wireless solutions and/or other related RF technologies
- Familiarity with Linux and/or other UNIX variants at a system administrator level
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and the ability to translate complex technology concepts into clear and simple language
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to solve problems in an efficient and methodical manner
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction or management
