JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Field Technician provides technical service support for satellite high speed broadband and IP television services to include installation, provisioning and field audit expertise for member and staff.  The position is knowledgeable in areas of building and electrical codes, installation specifications, and understanding of networks and internet connectivity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

? Act as primary source for technical support for members and staff by learning and thoroughly understanding the specifications, operation, maintenance and configuration of satellite, DSL/FTTH, and computer hardware and software.

? Assist with the design and implementation of technical training for installers of satellite broadband, DSL/FTTH, and other internet and video systems.  Provide support via webcasts, telephone, on-site visits, and written communications.

? Provide technical expertise regarding system hardware to the Procurement and Supply Team as needed.

? Provide technical solutions, education, and application design for members and internal staff.

? Achieves member satisfaction through technical competency, helpfulness, and value added activities.  Must understand and respond appropriately in all situations and make recommendations to member relative to the effective use of hardware, installations and provisioning.

? Other related duties as assigned.

 



KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

? Five (5) years? experience in satellite, technical and broadband customer service.

? Detailed knowledge of fiber, CAT5/6, and COAX cable and connector specifications.

? Experience with builders and electrical contractors, understands building and electrical codes.

? Experience in testing cable integrity to ensure it meets operating standards.

? Experience required installing satellite dishes, including standard and non-standard dish mounts.

? SBCA certification and telephone certification preferred.

? Experience with broadband routers preferred.

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

? Ability to identify, pull, and terminate CAT 5/6 and COAX cable as well as fiber.

? Ability to audit field sites to discover interference issues and assist installers to make needed corrections.

? Excellent computer skills; experience with different computer and software technology.

? Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact in a positive manner with external and internal contacts.

? Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.

? Good verbal and written communication skills.

? Knowledge and ability to use various software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

? Ability to complete multiple tasks within critical deadlines and report back in a timely manner.

? Ability to lift at least 75 pounds and carry objects such as tools, satellite dish components, boxes, etc

? Requires ability to use hand tools, handle ladders and perform installation related job functions safely and efficiently. 

? Ability to work at customers' homes (including closets, rooftops, attics and crawlspaces) and outdoors under all types of conditions (including unfavorable weather and in
ear various types of foliage and other potential allergens) to conduct customer audits.

? Valid U.S. driver?s license required.

? Ability to travel (75%).
