Public Safety Communication Specialist

This position is assigned to the Department's Emergency Communications Center (ECC. The Telecommunicator is responsible for delivering quality emergency communication services to the public, as well as providing accurate and timely dispatch support to the police officer. Major duties include answering police 9-1-1 emergency calls, and dispatching police officers to respond to calls, using a state-of-the art computer system known as (CAD) Computer Aided Dispatch. The Police Telecommunicator has a unique responsibility in a fast paced environment that requires coverage around the clock, careful attention to detail, multi-tasking, and good communication skills.

 

Minimum requirements:

* Completion of high school

* Ability to type 25 w.p.m

* One (1) year of responsible employment/work experience involving community based public 

involvement/contact

* Ability to perform assignmentsor attend functions at various locations when required for job related

  duties 

* The ability to effectively communicate in English

* Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Police Department
