NETWORK OPERATIONS OPERATOR/SPECIALIST

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for creating, updating and closing special circuit requests and trouble tickets for engineering and vendor inquiries; resolve support issues where feasible and escalate when necessary. Monitor environments and react to any and all significant alerts, incidents or outages. Available for on-call duty as needed for both emergency and non-emergency conditions when requested. Execute and monitor tape backups. Operate AS/400?s, peripherals, and perform other operator functions. Perform problem analysis on chronic circuit, switch alarms or problems and present finding. Coordinate the resolution of network outages directing the necessary internal and external organizations to resolve problems. Provide support for other technicians. Manage switch call record retrieval. Perform AMA Tapes and Records, Switch database backups. Monitor alarms including switch alarms, generator alarms, batteries status, and other environmental alarms. Run periodic line reports. Manage scheduled maintenance activity during off hours to ensure both our customer and the network is fully restored once activity is completed. Assist Field Technicians on new installs and troubles encountered during circuit turn upProvide help support for company PC hardware, operating systems (NT/2000/XP), email, Internet applications and network connectivity.

Education, Experience and Network Knowlege Desired:

Basic understanding of network and Internet technology in LAN and WAN environments. Associate or Bachelor Degree in IT or related field, technical institution training equivalent and/or 1 to 5 years work experience in a technical department. Knowledgeable to an intermediate level in the following areas or equivalent experience in a similar environment desired. AS400 operation, A+ Certification, Network+ Certification, Ethernet LAN, Cable TV network, CAT 5 twisted pair network, Fiber Optic network, Cisco switches, repeaters, routers. Windows XP Operating System, Win NT or Win 2003 server, TCP/IP, an intermediate knowledge of networks, PC?s, Windows OS, Microsoft Office tools desired.

Understand how to operate, configure and troubleshoot equipment and systems including but not limited to: Cisco, DSLAM, Adtran, Nortel, Mitel, OCCAM. Familiarity/basic understanding of security technology, telephony technology (circuits, PBX administration, VoIP) desired.

Must have the ability to read documentation and procedures/manuals on own and keep up with changes. Must be flexible. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Solid technical background in IT hardware and software. Self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited amount of instruction or supervision.

Salary Range: DOE $60,000-$70,000.
