Job Description
Support Night Shift Operations of the Network, Node, Collocation, Customer Care Operations, and Customer IT Equipment Process Checks
I. Specific Description and Requirements:
Must speak and comprehend English
Japanese language skills are plus
Must have US Citizenship or Permanent Residency status
A) Pro actively monitor customer network on various types of NMS and perform 1st level trouble isolation. Open trouble ticket with US local carriers to troubleshoot network related issues (layer 1 through layer 3). Notify customers of outage occurrence, status changes and trouble recovery and escalate to management in a timely manner when necessary.
B) Receive customer trouble claims for global network and non-network related services (ex: Internet and SI services such as Exchange servers, Firewalls, etc.) via phone, open electronic TT, and notify appropriate groups (NOC) within the same company or vendors/carriers. Follow different documented maintenance flows to refer to vendor and track repair progress, access routers to determine network status.
C) Receive electronic text pages from the Tokyo remote NOC of network related outages, notify customers, send internal management text pagers of outage status, monitor Trouble Ticket updates by Tokyo NOC and send recovery notification to customers and internal management.
D) Receive escalations from the Tokyo NOC to contact US Local Carriers (Verizon, Level3, MCI, XO, Broadwing, etc.) to escalate poor performance during an outage.
E) Follow a documented process to ensure that a specific Colocation customer's IT equipment (servers, routers, switches, etc) and processes applications are functioning correctly, take ppro activeactions to refer troubles to vendors and carriers to repair problems and to make the indicated notifications and status follow-up to customers and internal management.
F) Perform remote hand services at the direction of a specific Colocation customer in the process of maintaining or troubleshooting their equipment.
G) Monitor the NYC Data Center infrastructure (Power, Air Conditioning, etc) and notify Technical Support for service problems.
H) Maintain in-house cross-connects and the cable database.
I) Occasionally test and troubleshoot DS1/DS3, and OC3-OC48 data circuits,
J) Occasionally follow instructions from Day Shift Management to perform node equipment upgrade and installation under the guidance of NTT Headquarters in Tokyo.
K) Perform remote hand service at the direction of the remote Tokyo NOC in the process of troubleshooting circuits and node equipment.
II. Required Skills/Certifications
1. Good understanding of Layer 3 protocols, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIPv2, BGP) and Cisco routers.
2. Minimum 3 years experience working with Cisco routers and other networking equipment/devices. CCNA certification is required. CCNP is a plus.
3. Any Networking/Security (Cisco, CCIPP, Network+) or PC/Server (Microsoft, Unix, A+) related certifications are plus.
4. Knowledge/Experience of PDH (DDS, FT1/T1, DS3) and SONET/SDH (OC3/STM1 and above) technologies and troubleshooting.
5. Knowledge/Experience of Layer 2 (ATM, FR) protocols and troubleshooting
6. Knowledge/Experience with FR/ATM/IPL Network Standards and with ability to utilize BERT analyzers to find out the cause of outages.
7. Knowledge/Experience of Layer1 and Layer2 Test equipment such as T-Berd / F-Berd and Digital Lightwave.
8. Strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
9. Excellent verbal/communications/interpersonal skills
10. Strong multitasking skills and must have ability and willingness to learn quickly and adapt to newly introduced procedures, systems and technologies.
11. Ability to read blue prints and one line diagrams, and should be computer literate.
12. Knowledge of basic PC applications.
13. MUST speak and comprehend English
14. Japanese language skills are PLUS (both writing and speaking)
15. Green Card or US Citizenship status a PLUS

B. Installation and Acceptance of facilities from US Carriers:
Testing with US Carriers to complete, troubleshoot and accept various PDH (T1, E1, DS3) and SONET/SDH (OC3, OC12, OC48, STM-1, STM-4, STM-16) line rates to meet the on-time Due Date for new service dates from the Provisioning Group using the following test sets : Testers: T-Berd, Digital Lightwave, Fireberd, Anritsu, Agilent, etc.
