Position Description:  Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician ? Voice Tier 2 Support

 

Position Summary:  

 

Mpower?s NOC Technician is responsible for overall performance and integrity of the Mpower Communications Nationwide data and voice networks.

 

This position is full-time and requires flexible shift work.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

?  REQUIRED Experience - 3 to 5 years in a NOC or related environment.

?  Education ? High School Diploma and Vocational School or equivalent.

?  Proficient in Nortel DMS500 by utilizing a MAP terminal and different maintenance levels for investigating alarms.

?  PRI T1 support and Translations tables associated.

?  Knowledge of Anymedia, Access Nodes, DISC*S and Channel Banks a plus.

?  Circuit (T1, DS3, OC- n, SONET) troubleshooting and testing.

?  Lucent Softswitch knowledge a plus!

?  Experience with Netcool, Remedy and TBS a MAJOR PLUS!

?  Experience supporting Lucent and Nortel Optical equipment (surveillance and troubleshooting)

?  Maintenance and troubleshooting experience on Tellabs 5500 DACS

?  Knowledge of TL1 commands highly desirable

?  Attention to detail is required!

?  Considerable Team interaction, support and leadership is critical!

?  Strong written and verbal communication is a must!

?  Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and effectively.

?  Ability to adjust to change and follow procedures as outlined by department management.

?  Flexibility is a must.

 

General Duties:  

 

Provides support in a 24x7x365 days/year role that monitors and supports critical Mpower network elements using real time alarming of network faults and notifications, and performs proactive network element status and health checks as part of normal surveillance activities.

 

Upon receipt of network trouble conditions, implement network recovery procedures to isolate specific trouble source;  Direct and coordinate corrective actions to restore and repair network condition(s) internally and externally. 

 

Actively research data and/or voice networks for areas of potential problems or implementing quality improvements.  Work with Data Engineering when necessary to correct or improve network performance.

 

Initiates, updates, tracks and closes Remedy trouble tickets; creates and sends network alerts as needed to internal organizations (Customer Care, Repair, Engineering etc.).

 

Works to develop and/or implement network management tools and processes to improve the NOC capabilities, and to ensure quality service levels across all markets.

 

Provides technical support, training, and guidance to junior or less experienced technicians.

 

Identifies procedural errors and takes them back to the source or management. Works to ensure that procedures and processes are clear and will be followed going forward.

 

Execute effective actions to meet Mean Time To Repair and Network Availability goals and objectives.
