Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician

In 2005, Access proved its long term role in the local exchange carrier business by signing a Commercial Agreement with the incumbent local exchange carrier in the Southeast that will ensure the success of Access while it moves towards the future. The Agreement ensures the company time to build out the Access Digital Network, now available in select cities. 

 

We are seeking an experienced NOC Technician to provide support in a 24/7/365 days/year role to monitor and support critical AIN network elements using real time alarming of network faults and notifications.  Will also perform proactive network element status and health checks as part of normal surveillance activities.  May require working the evening or night shift.


The ideal candidates will have experience with Class 5 switching equipment (e.g. 5ESS, DMS-100) and general knowledge of telecommunications equipment and terminology.


 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Upon receipt of network trouble conditions, implements network recovery procedures to isolate specific trouble source.Directs and coordinates corrective actions to restore and repair network  conditions internally and externally.Actively researches data and/or voice networks for areas of potential problems or implementing quality improvements.  Works with other team members when necessary to correct or improve network performance.Initiates, updates, tracks and closes trouble tickets; creates and sends network alerts as needed to internal organizations (Customer Care, Repair, Provisioning, etc.).Ensures optimum performance of all switch-related network elements.Ensures switch configurations and updates are correct and current.Takes corrective action when network performance lags.Performs preventive/routine end-to-end maintenance processes.Provides technical support, training, and guidance to junior or less experienced techncians.Identifies procedural errors and takes them back to the source or management.  Works to ensure that procedures and processes are clear and will be followed going forward.Executes effective actions to meet Mean Time to Repair and Network Availability goals and objectives.

 

REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:


High school diploma or equivalent.Minimum of four years experience in telecommunications.Experience with Class 5 switching equipment (e.g. 5ESS, DMS-100).General knowledge of telecommunications equipment, terminology and standard.Familiarity with data communications concepts and standards (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, Ethernet, DSL).Experience with VoIP a plus.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

 Self-starter, highly organized and able to work with minimum supervision.Analytical and patient with technical details.Able to concentrate and complete procedures in an error-free manner even when under pressure.Ability to work independently as part of a team.
