Network Services Technician III

Mpower is a super regional CLEC (competitive local exchange carrier) serving areas throughout California, Nevada, and Illinois.

Mpower is looking for a?Network Services Technician III will provide hands on maintenance and operation activity for DMS 500 switch equipment.?? Performs simple and complex translations, analyzing and resolving switch and transport troubles, work service orders for lines, trunks and links.

General Duties:?

Under general direction, works on problems which are more complex. Able to work independently or with little or no guidance. May provide assistance to less experienced personnel.???

?1.?? Work logically and methodically to resolve service problems.? Performs switch preventative maintenance and upgrades

?2.?? Interface with customers and outside technicians

?3.?? Work with vendor and engineering personnel during new and growth installation work

?4.?? Monitor, investigate and retire equipment alarms as well as environmental alarms.

?5.??Responsible for patch verifications, NPA/NXX verification, switch translations, switch image, provisioning, trunk turn-up and testing.

?6.?? Interface with and take direction from the national Network Operations Center.

?7.?? May assign work and assist less experienced personnel.

Qualifications:

Thorough understanding of DMS 500 architecture, both hardware and software.?

Complete understanding of transport concepts.

Ability to use various test equipment and turn up DSLAMS & Lucent Anymedia devices.

Ability to work logically and methodically to resolve service problems, (occasionally under pressure)

Must be available to work any shift, including holidays and weekends, as well as being on call at all times.

Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Basic understanding telephony as well as electrical, electronic, analog, digital and computer concepts.? Has high degree of technical expertise.

Education and experience:

Associates Degree in technical field preferred.

5-7 years experience in a switch environment.? 2 years DMS 100/500 working experience required.? Knowledge of other switch technologies will also be considered.? Transport experience (fiber and copper based, DLC, DSLAMS)
