Operations Manager

We are always searching for qualified professionals to share in our steady growth. Currently, we are looking for an Operations Manager to be based in or near Detroit, MI.



 

JOB SUMMARY:
Coordination and supervision of TelCove network operations. This encompasses the management of: the Competitive Access Provider (CAP) network including outside plant construction, maintenance, building entry, and documentation, and the Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) network including installation of fiber optic multiplexer equipment and the day-to-day operations of a Class 5 digital switch for installation, provisioning, and maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for overseeing the day to day technical operations, building entry at end-user locations and implementation of operational policies and procedures through the city Operations Supervisor and technicians. Must interface with the city General Manager, building owners/managers, customers, contractors, and company personnel. Will take part in design solutions of out side plant and SONET rings. Direct supervision of city Operations Supervisor, Project Manager and Facilities Engineer. Is in direct line of responsibility to city GM to oversee through the Project Engineer the coordination of construction and building entry projects including budgets, time lines, cost analysis, scheduling and implementation. This position also works indirectly, with the Regional Operations Manager for quality of network operations, adherence to corporate policies and procedures to insure system integrity. Oversees the selection of fiber construction routes with assistance of local cable company partners. Meets and negotiates building entry routes and designs with building owners or managers, and customers. Works under guidelines provided by TelCove's Corporate office for SONET network design, maintenance and provisioning of Class 5 digital switch and preventive maintenance programs.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Direct the day-to-day activities of the city operations. Network integrity and survivability in close cooperation with the NCC and SCC. Conduct meetings with vendors and contractors. Meet with customers and present a good picture of the company. Prepare detailed weekly reports for GM and Regional Operations Manager. Prepare time lines for the projects. Prepare and track operational budgets. Control inventory via the millennium system. Ongoing development of operations personnel. Be available via a pager 24 hours-a-d ay for emergencies. Coordinate with NCC to assure circuit transitions are completed during safe time and on schedule. Maintain a pro-active program for equipment maintenance and circuit repair. Conduct periodic inspections of company vehicles for safety and maintenance. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.

 

HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS:
Must possess a high degree of inter-personal skills, including diplomatic abilities, basic courtesy, and temperament in order to conduct meetings and negotiate with partners, suppliers of right of way, other utilities, building landlords, equipment vendors and contractors. 

PROBLEM SOLVING:
Must be able to assess problems, research alternatives and pursue acceptable solutions while remaining within company guide lines. Must be innovative, able to reset priorities and use resources to meet the needs of the company.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent. Seven (7) years work experience in the telephony field and 5 years experience in project management.

 

PREFERRED:
Associates degree in Engineering or Business. Experience related to digital switching, with Lucent 5ESS equipment. Very good personal computer knowledge with particular skills in Windows, spreadsheet, word processor, database, project management, computer aided drafting programs, and MapInfo. Leadership skills with documented experience.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have good visual acuity. Must be able to travel extensively by automobile or other modes of public transportation. Must be able to work in a normal office environment including operation of a computer keyboard and mouse. The ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
