Pay Telephone Technician

Position: Pay Telephone Technician 

 

 

GENERAL DUTIES

1.

Receives work assignments from the supervisor or other designated employee(s).  Installs, collects and repairs coin telephone equipment.  Tests and adjusts equipment, using testing and measuring devices.

2.

Interprets service orders and circuit diagrams.  Coordinates work with other employees.

3.

Keeps detailed written record of work activity and accurately reports work performed. 

4.

Travels to customer premises in all types of weather conditions, at times, driving a company vehicle.

5.

Communicates with dissatisfied customers to resolve problems in a satisfactory and courteous manner.

6.

Typical installation may include some or all of the following:

? Verifies customer order, including type and location of equipment. 

? Uses hand tools to run necessary wiring for service connections.

? Installs inside wiring, which may include stapling wire along wall and drilling holes according to the practices.

? Verifies proper functioning of installed equipment with separate testing facility and portable testing facilities when necessary.

? When installing or repairing systems, connects equipment to inside cable and makes cross connections by connecting color coded wires or binding posts.

? Does construction work, e.g., digging holes, placing cable and conduit in the ground or buildings.

? Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches or detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, and buildings.

7.

Typical repair may include some of the following steps in addition to some steps outlined above:

? Analyzes and coordinates the clearing of trouble.

? Repairs, adjusts, cleans or replaces faulty telephone equipment and enclosures.  Examines equipment on which trouble has been reported.

? Inspects customer equipment to identify and correct potential trouble causing conditions and identify any unauthorized CPE. 

? Reports results of each inspection to the Repair Bureau.  Notifies dispatch desk if unexpected difficulties will prevent completion of a repair.  Contacts dispatch desk from customer premises upon completion of repair activity.

? Notifies subscriber when trouble is repaired or if it proves to be cable trouble.  This includes making a new appointment.

? Replaces directories.

 

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  One to five years of related experience and or training needed.

 

Physical Requirements

? Job requires the ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds, working aloft, etc.

? Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.

? Works aloft on ladders or poles using body belts and safety straps.  Employee?s weight and tools combined may not exceed 250-300 pound weight limit as specified by the manufacturer.

 

Specifics for the Job

? Employees are required to work varying tours and hours including weekends and holidays depending upon employee skills, abilities and the needs of the business.

? May require compliance with State and Federal Department of Transportation Driver Qualification Regulations, including drug and alcohol testing

? Requires valid state driver's license, satisfactory driving record

? Ability to meet standards of security investigation.
