Planning Engineer - San Jose, CA

Position Summary:

The Planning Engineer will be responsible for authorizing the spending of capital dollars to support network requirements, monitoring construction status, tracking network utilization, and other trends AboveNet?s network assets.

Responsibilites:

The Engineer will plan overbuilds for existing facilities nearing exhaust and new routes. Additional responsibilities include creating network maps, identifying capital improvements during cable relocations, validating cost estimates provided by vendors and establishing monitoring circuits. This position will require interaction with other functional areas within AboveNet, including Field Operations, Sales, and Business Operations.

Requirements:
Bachelor?s degree from a 4-year college or university is required. Engineering discipline preferred.
2 ? 5 years prior Telecommunications and/or Network Planning Experience required.
Knowledge of MapInfo Professional and all related MapInfo software, experience using other GIS software packages is a plus.
Knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Access Databases.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of CAD.
