Role and Responsibilities:Characterization and modeling of optical componentsMeasurements of spectral, thermal and electronic properties of tunable optical filtersDesign of tunable optical filtersModel the impact of changes in the spectrum of the filter or optical signal on the measurement accuracy of a DWDM optical performance monitor containing a tunable optical filterThermal modeling of thermo-optic tunable filtersDevelop hardware and software to enable optical metrology for multilayer filter deposition process Interact with Systems Development group to specify optical filter requirements for fiber-optic network monitoring applicationsInteract with Reliability engineer to specify measurements and calculations for determination of filter aging budget and failure rateCharacterize the interactions between analog electronic controllers and properties of tunable optical filters for monitoring applications Lead projects to develop new varieties and applications of tunable optical filters

 

Experience and Education:Experience in characterization and modeling of optical components and materialsUnderstanding of optical materials and device physicsSome knowledge of optical communication systems is a plusExperience with Matlab and Labview is desirableSome electronic design and debug experience is desirableExperience in a manufacturing environment is a plusCross-functional project management and team leadership experience is desirableMinimum of BS in Physics, EE or Materials Science and 5 years experience, advanced degree is preferred
