Radio System Manager

This position primarily provides 2nd and 3rd level support for the 900 MHz Motorola 4.1 SmartZone Wide Area Radio System. Duties and responsibilities also include, but not limited to, working with various departments and units in an ongoing effort to provide overall technical direction, work flow management, and policy development. Manage and provide assistance on restoration efforts as required. Provide communications on performance issues and remediation steps taken to repair system. Identified point of contact between the Motorola Service Representative and Progress Energy for Customer Service related issues and vendor management. Collaborate with other units and departments on system design initiatives. Track system growth and recommend system modifications, enhancements, expansions, and service policies based on usage. Provide support for implementation of configuration changes associated with the radio system transport, Smartzone, subscriber templates, software updates etc. Monitor system databases for normal operations and identify problem areas; evaluate load efficiency, system performance, interface operability, and service availability. Provide metrics report.

Minimum requirements for this job include Bachlor's degree (Computer Science or other technical degree preferred) and five or more years directly related experience; or a two year technical degree and seven or more years of directly related experience; or nine years of directly related experience.

In-depth knowledge of wireless RF technology, theory and application; Knowledge of distributed wireless environment (i.e. Trunked Radio Network); Experience in fleet mapping design and administration; Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills; Flexibility/adaptability in a changing environment; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with a wide range of people. Motorola 4.1 SmartZone experience a plus.

 

Career level.  Fully competent in use of both principles and application.  Works independently on tasks/projects with limited supervision.  Receives guidance only unusual or complex projects or issues.  Identifies problems and possible solutions and takes appropriate action for resolution.  Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 5+ years professional experience.
