Switch Technician

Major Responsibilities: Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Mobile Switching Office (MSO) Fixed Network Engineering (FNE) equipment to ensure high-quality performance and reliability.  Additional responsibilities include overall Network Availability via fault resolution for all real time Customer Impacting issues.

 

Activities Include: Preventative and Corrective Maintenance issues including contractor supervision, vendor interface, and coordination with Nortel, Alcatel, SS8, Spatch, and others as needed. Ensuring that all spare hardware is maintained in accordance with RMA tracking procedures. Completing all MSO network growth activities, which include the testing and acceptance, turn-up, and post turn-up monitoring of all transport and switching network elements.

 

Minimum Qualifications: (Job related skills, experience, and education): One (1) to three (3) years of wireless/telecom operations experience is required. Two-year college degree or technical school certificate in electronics, computer science, information systems management or equivalent work experience.

 Nortel GSM Telecom experience is preferred. Knowledge of FNE subsystems is preferred (specifically with the Alcatel DACS, Nortel DMS 100, Nortel BSC/TCU, SS8 VM System). Experience with DS0 to OC-12 transmissions testing is required. Must be a team player. Must have positive verbal and written communication skills. Must be capable of working any shift which could include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
