We are seeking a ?Technical Support Specialist? for our ?Palm Bay facility.?
Position Description:
The main role of the Technical Support Engineer is to provide the troubleshooting expertise needed to correctly diagnose and efficiently handle trouble calls related to earthstation and satellite network systems, as well as to provide the technical support needed to enable Field Engineers to effectively handle their field assignments. The position requires a thorough system-level understanding of the principles of satellite RF communications through the Ku-Band, plus familiarity with the following equipment: satellite modems, transmitters, antennas, antenna controls, motors, resolvers, LNBs, encoders, multiplexers, IRDs, signal routing, conditioning and monitoring equipment The successful candidate will also be knowledgeable with the associated test equipment: Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters, BER Test Sets, Video- and Audio Distortion Analyzers, etc. A background which includes LAN, TDMA, Store-and-Forward, StatMux, ATM and other technologies would be a definite plus. Familiarity with PCs and their operating systems, and the ability to read schematic diagrams is necessary. The individual must not only be trainable in these disciplines, but also know how to train others, as that is also a significant aspect of the job. Must have excellent writing skills and verbal abilities. Must be able to conceptualize and troubleshoot problems at distant sites, sight unseen, using site personnel as ?remote hands?. Must work well with others in the team, sometimes under pressure.
Job Responsibilities:
? Test, troubleshooting, commissioning and continuing support of remote sites
? Support of Ascent Field Engineering crews
? Help maintain the Palm Bay Technical Support Center and Testbed
? Technical Writing, to include Procedures, Data Sheets, Technical Manuals, etc
? Occasional project work for Engineering Department
? Rack integration, cable fabrication, interconnect wiring and cabling
? Satellite access; i.e. bringing up/down carriers, optimizing earth station antennas
? Training of Field Engineers and other Tech Support personnel
Job Qualifications:
? Knowledge of satellite earth stations and associated equipment
? Knowledge of applicable test equipment; Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters, Frequency Counters, Transmission Test Sets, Distortion Analyzers, BER Test Sets, Video/Audio Monitors, etc.
? Proficient at system level troubleshooting and test
? Working knowledge of C-Band and Ku-Band transmit and receive equipment
? Working knowledge of monitor and control systems
? Working knowledge of networking equipment
? Ability to utilize personal computer and/or computer terminal including keyboard and mouse or equivalent
? Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Hyperterminal and/or Procomm
? Working knowledge of system integration and rack/IFL interconnects
Work Environment:
? Primary work area is a technical lab or maintenance shop type environment with associated, ambient noise and visual acuity levels
? Up to 10% travel
? Shift work likely
? Ability to utilize electronic communication media including telephone, fax, and email ? or equivalent
? Occasional climbing to 20 feet
? Occasional lifting and movement of up to 40 pounds

Position Qualifications:
? Associate?s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field or equivalent certification from a technical trade school
? Minimum five years experience in the test, troubleshooting, implementation and commissioning of satellite earthstations and/or satellite networks preferred
? Some previous experience as a Field Engineer preferred
? Experience with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint
? Some networking experience preferred
? Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both orally and in writing
? Must be comfortable in a team environment, with minimal supervision
