Job Description: Telecommunications ( Symposium/Nortel and KSU systems )
Profile:
Performs a variety of skilled technical work in configuration, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of telecommunications physical, data link and network layer systems and associated equipment. Duties are performed in a highly customer orientated organization, where the exercise of excellent customer service, teamwork and relations is paramount. Operating, monitoring, and servicing multiple communications devices in voice and data networks. Diagnose and test voice and data network infrastructure. Expectations include; the ability to perform unsupervised installations, conduct independent system level trouble shooting, proficiency on many telecom systems
Essential Functions:
* Configure (as related to MACD), maintain, repair, and troubleshoot data network systems and associated technologies (e.g. routers, switches) in compliance with established processes and standards
* Configure (as related to MACD), maintain, repair, and troubleshoot PBX systems and associated technologies (e.g. PBX, KSU, Traffic analysis, signaling systems, IP telephony, voicemail, Call Detail Reporting systems) in compliance with established processes and standards
* Provide first and second level support for monitoring, fault diagnosis, performance tuning/management of the data and telephony network
* Implements/performs end user support plans for products supported or managed, including using problem management processes and tools to provide support
* Works with other third-party supplied personnel engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of data and telephony equipment
* Works within the primary facility or travels to other facilities to do the same work
* Track and manage the assets of the data and telephony network.
Technology and Skills:
Symposium and Senior skills with Nortel PBX and Data
* Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant experience
* Demonstrates ability to maintain, configure, and troubleshoot access and distribution switches. Must have knowledge of MAC and IP addressing, Cisco Switch Operating Systems, broadcast, multi-cast, Spanning Tree algorithms
* Demonstrates ability to maintain, configure and troubleshoot Nortel PBX and KSU systems
* Ability to inventory and manage infrastructure assets (e.g., hardware, software, network equipment) using appropriate processes and tools. This may include the ability to manage hardware requirements including ordering, staging, testing, installation, configuration, maintenance, decommissioning and disposal of systems applicable to area of responsibility (e.g., voice and data network components)
* Demonstrates the ability to document infrastructure configuration, changes, and design components in order to facilitate effective management of the infrastructure and ensure accuracy of the infrastructure information (e.g., components, version numbers, supplier information, history, location, status, component relationships, and asset information)
* Demonstrates ability to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, backup/restore/rebuild an operating system
* Understanding of the physical aspects of networking such as wire, fiber, copper, twisted pair, coax. Fully understands the hardware means of sending and receiving data on a carrier, including defining cables, cards and physical aspects
* Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, including Wins, DHCP, DNS, UDP, TCP
* Ability to detect, record, investigate, and diagnose events which cause disruption or reduction in quality or service level. This includes incident monitoring, tracking, communication, resolution and recovery
* Skilled practitioner of the methods, tools, equipment and materials used in telecommunications equipment testing, repair and maintenance
* Skilled practitioner with regard to the current telecommunications network environment at our client
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
* The essential duties of this job regularly require the use of small hand tools, computer keyboard, printer, modem and associated equipment required to install, troubleshoot or repair hardware
Communication Skills:
* Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner both orally and written
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
* Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
* Planning / Organization Skills: Proficiency in prioritizing to effectively meet daily work demands

* Ability to interact and work effectively with a diverse group of peers, customer, vendors, etc.
* Ability to cultivate positive and cooperative working relationships with others
Physical Requirement:
* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
* Ability to climb, bend stoop, walk and stand for long periods of time before a rest period is available
* Ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel to various work sites.
