Telecommunications/IP Engineer

Description: Develops, expands, and maintains the data network, systems engineering and field engineering areas. Expands our data footprint into new markets when financially feasible.

Tasks/Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Defines and compiles procedures and documentation for support personnel to follow in support of day-to-day operations.
Coordinates with Operations, Sales and all areas within Field Engineering to ensure the network is available and configured to exceed market demands.
Tracks and resolves escalations as appropriate.
Makes specific recommendations and assists in implementation of plans that enhance technical operation, compliance with rules and regulations, and permits the deployment of new technology.
Designs circuits, configures and designs backbone routers and circuits, and prepares circuit design drawings for assigned projects. Works with Construction and Project Engineers to ensure installation deployment of network systems and applications.
Conducts evaluation, cost analysis, selection, engineering and network design of digital telecommunications equipment including fiber optic cables and terminal, multiplexers, digital cross connects, channel banks, local area networks, digital switching systems and related equipment.
Maintains the Central Office switching equipment, transmission equipment, power equipment, battery plants and other ancillary equipment
Tests, turns-up and maintains local dial tone service.
Troubleshoots and repairs switch issues and monitors traffic capacity.
Interprets and resolves error messages in the switch and acts as a primary liaison with other departments to correct the error messages.
Interfaces with ILEC?s and Long Distance carriers for installation and repair of circuits.
Remains current on the latest switch technology through completion of required/recommended training.
Maintains the installation, maintenance and repair records for the switch and associated ancillary equipment.
Must be able to work in a high stress, crisis management environment.
Must be able to work a flexible and on-call schedule

Qualifications:
Requires a BSEE, BS Mathematics, or equivalent degree.
Preferred with 3 to 5 years experience in relevant technical skills or the equivalent in education and experience.
Must have current knowledge of statistical analysis and mathematical trending.
Must have current knowledge of technology, standards, and specifications related to transmission systems, switching, digital loop carrier and related telecommunications systems.
Requires strong hands-on technical knowledge of telephony operations, products, and services.
Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be proficient in use of standard computer hardware and software systems such as spreadsheets, word-processing, database, and CAD programs.
