CLAIMS ANALYST

CLAIMS ANALYST OVERALL FUNCTIONS Responsible for receiving, investigating, and processing all auto transportation damage and cargo claims with respect to assigned customer accounts.  Also responsible for performing any specific research or special projects related to the Claims Department as requested  by either the Controller, the Quality Assurance Manager, or the Communications Director.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 


CLAIMS PROCESSING/RESERVE FUND ADMINISTRATION

a. Receives claims by phone, mail or fax; initiates claim files and completes proper written and computer documentation.

b. At the direction of Managers, advises drivers on proper procedures when needed, i.e., repair prior to delivery, return to shipper, delivery as is, taking photographs, etc.

c. At the direction of Managers, communicates with claimants on additional information needed and/or company guidelines for acceptable claims.

d. Documents estimates of repairs based on photographs and/or descriptions of damages from appropriate resources.

e. Locates reasonable (cost-effective and timely) repair facilities and negotiates repair costs when needed.

f. Reviews any estimates and all applicable facts surrounding claims (including driver and terminal manager testimonies) to establish validity.

g. Conducts on-site inspections of damage if needed and at the direction of Managers.

h. Pays or denies claims as appropriate to company policy as well as customer posture.

i. Communicates with management, operations, dispatch and out-lying terminals on status of current claims.

j. Explains both accumulation and utilization of damage reserve fund to drivers as needed.

k. Monitors reserve fund levels for all trucks and makes both manual and computerized adjustments in levels based on claim activity and/or errors.

l. Ensures timeliness and accuracy in reserve fund activity as reflected in computer documentation.

m. Identities opportunities to subrogate claims against responsible parties.  Initiates and tracts subrogation efforts.

n. Coordinates with  Safety Department with respect to cargo claims involving road accidents.

o. Reiterates company's desire to handle claims in the most professional and expeditious manner possible.
