Class A Delivery Truck Driver

Mr. Mulch is a fast-growing, progressive landscape supply company in the Columbus, OH area which sells a variety of landscape products ranging from mulch and decorative stone to everything needed for pond and patio projects. Mr. Mulch's primary choice carrier is J.P. Transport, Inc, which is now accepting applications for two position openings:

Position 1: Requires a Class A CDL to do primarily longer distance runs within the state of Ohio to pick up product and possibly local deliveries around the greater Columbus area. Required to perform mainly intrastate hauling until November, at which time 1-2 night Over-the-Road stays out of the state may be required. This is generally a Monday through Friday shift, although J.P. Transport requires its drivers to maintain open schedule flexibility.  

Position 2: Also requires a Class A CDL to do primarily local deliveries around the greater Columbus area and possibly longer distance runs within the state of Ohio. Required to perform mainly local deliveries until November, at which time 1-2 night Over-the-Road stays out of the state may be required. This position requires that the driver have some Moffet or equivalent piggyback/tagalong experience to do local deliveries. This is generally a Monday through Saturday shift, although J.P. Transport requires its drivers to maintain open schedule flexibility.   

J.P. TRANSPORT DELIVERY DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES:  

General Responsibility: Safely operate Class A, B, or Non-CDL delivery trucks, depending on certification, and company needs, hauling cargo for J.P. Transport.

 

Itemized Responsibilities & Tasks:

1.  Operate and maneuver all trucks in a safe, courteous manner.

2.  Complete assigned deliveries on schedule.

3.  Perform all required vehicle safety inspections.

4.  Fill out, maintain, and turn in all associated driver logs in accordance with DOT Regulations.

5.  Review shipping documents for correct information and instructions.

6.  Ensure truck is loaded with correct product and quantity.

7.  Secure all loads in compliance with DOT regulations.

8.  Communicate with Dispatcher and/or customer as instructed on shipping documents/orders.

9.  Review and be familiar with most effective routes to pickup/delivery location.

10.  Confirm all load/unload schedules with Dispatcher.

11.  Set & adjust appointments as needed to meet delivery deadlines.

12.  Ensure all required shipping documents/receipts are signed, maintained and distributed properly.

13.  Continuously & promptly report the status of all loads to Dispatcher.

14.  Report any delays immediately.

15.  Maintain the safety and cleanliness of any truck driven.

16.  Complete any other checklists as given by Dispatcher or General Manager.

17.  Perform other various situation-based functions pertaining to daily customer and manager needs.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

1.  At least 18 years of age.

2.  Possess a personable & pleasant demeanor.

3.  Ability to handle fast-paced, stressful work environment.

4.  Ability to handle customer complaints & other difficult situations successfully.

5.  Ability to learn & retain general product information.

6.  Ability to formulate basic mathematical equations.

7.  Ability to effectively use two-way phones.

8.  Willingness to comply with all company policies & procedures.

9.  Ability to effectively & courteously communicate with other employees and customers.

 

Performance Evaluations:

Evaluations are given after 30 days, 90 days, and 6 months. After a year of employment with JP Transport, evaluations will be done every 6 months. Evaluations will be conducted by the General Manager of J.P. Transport.

General:

All driver positions are considered seasonal with room for advancement for top performers. Fulltime and part-time positions are available. Piggy-back experience and/or experience in the landscape field is a plus.
