Director - Risk Management and Safety

A leading Gulf-south company with interests in stevedoring, terminal operations and warehousing throughout the Gulf Region is seeking an experienced Risk Management Director who will direct the organizational-wide risk management, compliance and safety & loss control programs and initiatives. Manages and coordinates all aspects of workers' compensation insurance and programs.

 

This position will provide professional knowledge and expertise in the areas of safety, loss prevention, claims mitigation/claims management, and insurance in effectively addressing all aspects of risk management. Develop and implement a strategic plan for the management of the Workers' Compensation/Employee injury program and claims process in conjunction with our insurance carrier(s). Responsible for leading, developing, coordinating and implementing comprehensive risk, safety and occupational health component of operations, personnel, equipment, materials and environments to achieve safety effectiveness for the company and ensure compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Expertise in claims management and experience with insurance procurement including Workers' Compensation, property and G/L. This position collaborates closely with Administration, Operations, Human Resources and Legal. This position will require travel throughout the Gulf South region.

 

Responsibilities & Requirements:

 Ability to work with all levels of management. Experience in claims management and successful negotiations of Workers' compensation, property and G/L insurance. Experience in safety program development, implementation, monitoring and reporting. Manage Workers' compensation and risk management programs. Develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive safety program including policies, procedures, objectives and budget. Create and provide a method of measurement for evaluation of safety program's effectiveness. Maintain all incident/accident data and investigations. Ensure compliance with Safety Policy, Homeland Security, and OSHA regulations. Serve as a primary instructor for safety training, measurements and third party instructors. Conduct ongoing risk and safety reviews of all operating divisions and issue reports. Conduct accident investigations. Maintains and manages all safety records including training, compliance, OSHA logs, and workers' compensation. Develops, implements and coordinates the Disaster Preparedness Program, Hurricane Preparedness Plan and similar plans. Investigates all risk and safety complaints and defines recommendations for resolution. Coordinates with Human Resources and Legal all Workers' Compensation issues. Participate and recommend continuing education seminars and training on relevant risk management and safety to ensure ongoing preparedness. Communicates with co-workers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner. Conforms with and Abides all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Occupational or Industrial relations or related degree. Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years experience in developing and administering risk management, business insurance, safety, emergency and training programs. Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, Homeland Security, and Coast Guard Regulations required. Requires 24-hour availability in the event of a disaster. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of all federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations. A record of successful development and implementing risk, safety and health management systems that reduces risk and injuries. Work experience ten (10) or more years.

 

Salary:$65,000/year
