MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or completion of a high school equivalency program.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in constructions, facilities maintenance, or skill trades work.

NOTES: Work experience as defined above my be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFCATIONS:

1.  Employees applying for the Facility Maintenance Technician IV classification may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver?s License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated, that may be required for continued employment. This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA-issued waiver) every two years. Note:  Employees must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies required for operation of State-owned vehicles.

2.  Candidates and promotional employees hired into the Facility Maintenance Technician IV classification may be required to satisfy the employing administration?s training and certification program requirements during the probationary period.

3.  Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration?s training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.

4.  Employees seeking transfer to another administration may be required to satisfy that administration?s training and certification program requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Facilities Maintenance Technician IV is responsible for repairing and maintaining facilities such as buildings, bulkheads, parking areas, pedestrian ramps, roads, tunnels, and adjacent areas of the MARC/Commuter Bus Division with the Maryland Transit Administration. Employees at this level ensure all materials and equipment are used correctly while ensuring the work is carried out in a timely manner consistent with the employing administration?s specific and standard procedures. This position also requires electronic and/or electrical repair and maintenance experience, preferably P.A. speakers, circuit boards, circuit relays, wiring and other types of facility communication systems. This position entails maintenance work requiring physical exertion, which is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside of buildings. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds, and may also be required to work at high elevations or perform their job in cramped quarters within buildings or underground. Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters in tunnels, underground  and in buildings. 

2.  Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees are subject to being on call 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or beeper) at their own expense for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.

3.  Applicants may be subject to a background check which may impact employment.  A history of arrest or conviction is not an automatic disqualification to employment.  Applicants, who are considered for work at the Maryland Aviation Administration, are subject to an extensive pre-employment security background check as required by the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107.

4.  Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing,  pass hazardous materials training, and have the ability to wear a respirator. 

5. Employees in this classification are considered ?Essential Employees? and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to ?Essential Employee? status.

6. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

7.  Employees in this classifications are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
