Field Safety TrainerFontana, CA JOB DESCRIPTION:

GENERAL SCOPE OF JOB:

Provide safety training to all Company Drivers and Independent Contractors at Interstate Distributor Co.  Participate in the development of programs for the Safety Training Team.  Monitor the safety records of assigned driver group, conduct interviews with assigned drivers and non drivers involved in preventable accidents or workplace injuries making improvement recommendations as needed.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide comprehensive Driver Safety Training Programs for all Interstate Distributor Co. Company Drivers, including DOT safety requirements, with an emphasis on safe, efficient and economical vehicle operation. Travel to different locations to facilitate training.

 

Monitor Safety Records of assigned drivers.

 

Insure full compliance for assigned driver group of all company safety training requirements.

 

Perform post accident investigations when necessary.

 

Conduct driver post accident road test when applicable and provide additional driver training to prevent future accidents.

 

Review workplace injuries of assigned drivers and non drivers making recommendations as needed and providing training to further reduce injury.

 

Provide ongoing input to Director of Training regarding changes to improve the content, delivery or value of Driver Safety Training. 

 

The ability to perform administrative tasks, clerical tasks and projects as needed.  Will be required to meet with manager and other members of the Safety Training staff to monitor progress and plan improvements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Two years previous experience as a training instructor with safety emphasis in the transportation industry.

 

Current fully qualified CDL driver with minimum 1 plus year(s) of over the road driving experience.

 

Knowledge of state and federal DOT safety regulations.

 

Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare and use Power Point software for presentations.

 

Ability to work with various types of personalities and members of management in a positive and professional manner.

 

The ability to work various time periods of the day or night and various days of the week as required.

 

The ability to travel to assigned locations being away from established permanent residence up to two weeks at a time.

 

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to individuals and or groups of individuals on subjects related to safety training.

 

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

Possess strong knowledge of the trucking industry specifically as they relate to driver safety matters.  Must keep abreast of current and future developments and changes.

 

Demonstrates above average organizational skills to effectively handle multiple priorities with short deadlines.

 

Maintain professional well groomed appearance in accordance with company policy.

 

Knowledge of geographic locations with the ability to understand time and distance factors.

 

Strong analytical and problem solving ability.

 

The ability to load and unload freight weighing 1 to 80 pounds, by pushing, pulling, carrying or lifting (occasionally overhead) of varying size and shape, a distance of up to 53 feet for extended periods of time with or without a mechanical device. 

 

The ability to inspect by bending, squatting, kneeling and pulling intermittently checking truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water for pre-trip and service checks.
