JOB DESCRIPTION: 



GENERAL SCOPE OF JOB:

Manage a designated number of drivers and tractors in transporting freight to and from designated locations by performing the following duties.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dispatch drivers by telephone or by using the Qualcomm satellite system, on their load assignment, pick up and delivery times, proper routing, fueling and billing information and/or any additional information necessary for driver to perform his/her duties.

 

Counsel, document and/or discipline drivers regarding any issues that may be affecting their service or performance while maintaining a positive and professional manner.

 

Monitor drivers/tractors on a daily basis, updating the system with accurate information concerning driver's availability, hours of service and any other situation or information to assure maximum utilization, customer on time delivery and driver satisfaction.

 

Manage driver turnover and retention.

 

Communicate with Customer Service personnel any customer issues such as late deliveries, detention or other problems that may occur.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

One year previous managerial experience.

 

Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry.

 

Knowledge of geographic locations and the ability to calculate time and distance for these locations.

 

Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means to drivers and office employees.

 

Possess computer experience: keyboarding ability is essential, as is the ability to effectively work in a computerized environment.

 

Demonstrate above average organizational and memory skills to effectively handle multiple priorities with short deadlines.

 

Strong analytical and problem solving ability.

 

Understand, monitor and assist drivers to be in compliance with D.O.T. compliance

 

Understand applicable state and federal laws.

 

Understanding of rates.

 

Regular and consistent attendance during assigned work hours is required.
