Maintenance Team Leader

Position Description: JOB SUMMARY: The team leader is responsible for hands-on leading of associates, interacting with customers and improving customer service. They focus time on key initiatives in the areas of reducing costs, improving quality, and on training, coaching and mentoring associates in a hands-on shop environment. Team leaders manage the day-to-day shop operations by working with associates throughout the organization to resolve equipment issues, make best-value decisions, improve processes, and ultimately to ensure loads are delivered safely and on-time. Working with the shop manager, team leaders develop and implement plans for continuous improvement in customer service, cost effectiveness, and associate development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides on going direction and leadership to maintenance associates to ensure high quality maintenance solutions, and superior customer service.
2. Identifies, evaluates and makes decisions on shop operations by evaluating key factors including throughput, parts inventory, safety/compliance, budget, and other key factors.
3. Provides input to, participates in, or leads teams of associates focusing on a variety of projects.
4. Interacts, consults and make presentations to other departments on issues regarding maintenance planning, service, initiatives and key factors.
5. Provides support to Driver Services, and as temporary leadership at other shops.
6. Establish solid business relationships and maintains open, accurate and timely two-way communications with shop associates.
7. Seek innovative and continuous improvement in all areas of shop and maintenance system through Schneider's Quality Improvement Process.
8. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures. Makes safety-conscious decisions.
9. Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and facilitates changes when appropriate.
10. Recruit, interview and hire maintenance associates.
11. Facilitates maintenance associates? individual development, education, and training through daily coaching and regular business partnerships and performance appraisals.
12. Builds trust-based working relationships with vendors, drivers, and other company associates.
13. Coach maintenance associates in making best-value repair and scheduling decisions.

2. Ability to evaluate alternatives in order to make best overall value decisions based on considering cost, customer expectations, driver needs and other factors.
3. Commitment to and successful experience with coaching and developing others.
4. Experience with or aptitude for maintenance scheduling, parts management, basic computer operation and the fundamentals of tractor and trailer maintenance.
5. Solid judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills and a proven record of taking the initiative and responsibility in using those skills effectively, both individually and as a member of a team.
6. Ability to function in a high-stress environment.
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate and listen effectively with people of diverse opinions and backgrounds.
