Operations Manager

Position Description: American Port Services, a Savannah-based, third-party logistics company providing total logistics solutions to Fortune 500 companies, is now accepting resumes for the position of Operations Manager. Candidates will have as a minimum the following knowledge, understanding and qualifications:

The Distribution Center Operations Manager is responsible for the organization, scheduling of staff, managing and directing the account functions on a day-to-day work plan. Adjusts schedules as necessary to meet production demands. This position reports to the Distribution Center/Facility Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Directs the day-to-day activities of the distribution center account. Such activities include shipping, receiving, sanitation, maintenance, inventory control, etc.
2. Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel to ensure proper staffing in order to select and receive products at the facility in a productive and cost-efficient manner.
3. Generates warehouse productivity reports.
4. Adheres to budget requirements and works toward obtaining objectives and departmental goals.
5. Responsible for maintenance of warehouse equipment, providing both preventive maintenance programs and all necessary repairs.
6. Ensures that warehouse personnel have safe, efficient equipment in order to perform the distribution center account functions.
7. Responsible for warehouse safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for employees and within the regulations of all OSHA local and state regulations.
8. Recommends equipment requirements and replacements to the Vice President of Operations in order to upgrade and maintain the account productivity and efficiency.
9. Acts as replacement or backup as needed for other distribution center accounts.
10. Responsible for the progressive disciplinary processes in the area of counseling, oral and written warnings; ensures a productive labor climate in the account operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum high school education required; college degree in related logistics field preferred.
2. Must have minimum three years demonstrated work history in a logistics and warehousing environment with overall knowledge of basic warehousing, storage, cross-docking and supply principles and processes.
3. Must have excellent supervisory and communication skills
4. Must be PC literate with working knowledge of warehousing and yard management systems.
