Ramp Operations Manager II

Summary Responsible for all activities involved in ramp operations at hubs, gateways, and terminals, including processing time-sensitive materials for pick-up, transit, and delivery and the sorting, loading, unloading, and material handling of materials. Moves material with speed and accuracy according to established procedures to meet deadlines for business necessity.

Tasks & Accountabilities
Coordinates the ramp operation by communicating with other functional agencies within the hub operation including but not limited to: System Operations Control, Flight Control, Aircraft Maintenance, Ground Service and Equipment, Sort, Ramp, Gateway, Air Traffic Control, Customs and Agriculture. Assigns, controls and coordinates the movement of ramp crews during the unload and reload phases of the nightly ramp operation and ensures the timely movement of material in and out of the sort facility. Ensures all governmental FAA regulations (such as FAA in the US) on containers and pallets and governmental FAA safety guidelines for ramp and tug personnel are adhered to. Performs load verification as it relates to placement of containers/weight on the aircraft to ensure airworthiness and that governmental FAA regulations and DHL policies and procedures are adhered to. Develops data gathering procedures whereby the Ramp Tower is utilized for the central collection and analysis of aircraft arrival/departure statistics; gathers, analyzes, and compiles statistical reports used in assessing airline and hub delays. Successfully completes certification training and maintains currency in the use of all equipment as it relates to the loading, unloading, and material handling equipment, including, not limited to, forklifts, tugs, belt loaders, and cargo loaders. Supervises two or more staff; responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff. Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes.

Skills & Qualifications
Has extensive depth of expertise and knowledge in specialized functions or business areas. A thorough understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Develops advanced concepts, techniques, and standards. Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories. Viewed as expert in functional or business area within DHL. Deals with cross-cultural tactical issues. Typically requires BS/BA and 6-8 years experience in related field, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience. Professional certification required in some areas.
