SUMMARY:  Fleet Service Supervisor (Shop Supervisor) directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in servicing and repair of transportation equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Confers with department heads to arrange for equipment such as motor vehicles, railroad rolling stock and equipment, and within plant tracking systems, to be released from service for inspection, service, or repair.  State and Federal EPA - OSHA - Contract.

? Establishes policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles; schedules repairs; assigns and directs activities of service and repair personnel; and follows up on repairs being made.

? Building and yard maintenance.

? Authorizes and arranges for purchase of supplies, tools, and machinery.  Fuels, installation of logs and permits, inventories.

? Consults with officials of operating and servicing divisions on vehicle replacement needs.

? Equipment sales. 

? Contracts for repair services not performed in shop.  Coding and charging out all invoices, tracking units for modifications.

? Investigates and evaluates cause and extent of damage of vehicles involved in accidents.

? Morning dispatch.

? Load make-up.

? Direct/lead shop personnel.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

? High school diploma or equivalent

? Must have a mechanical background with diesel experience (experience in fleet maintenance preferred)

? Supervisory experience managing in a fleet or similar environment

? Knowledge of welding and hydraulics

? Solid labor relations knowledge and experience with experience working in a union shop environment 

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills

? Stable work history with a strong work ethic

? Available to work overtime, weekends, holidays

? Decision/reasoning ability to use discretion, make sound judgments, resolve problems

? Ability to lift up to 60 pounds

? Proficient with computer software
