Shop Supervisor

Position Description: JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for front line leadership and management of maintenance facility, which generally does not have Maintenance Team Leaders or Driver Service Team Leaders. Coaches, trains, and develops maintenance associates to maximize their performance. Responsible for all shop key factor results and the development of business action plans against those results.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for the proactive leadership of small shop, (i.e., hire, train, communicate, appraise.)
2. Makes best value decisions regarding repairs and scheduling not normally made by mechanics or MST's (e.g. overhauls).
3. Develops plans for continuous improvement and sets challenging but attainable results and leads associates in achieving them.
4. Identifies need, develops and implements SOP's to standardize shop procedures within the shop or maintenance system.
5. Responsible for maintaining the relationship with Operations leadership that results in the delivery of maintenance key factors, repair stances, major maintenance work, etc.Point of contact and responsible for the interviewing and hiring decisions for shop associates.
6. May lead, coach, and develop one or more Maintenance Team Leaders, based on shop size and needs.
7. Performs periodic reviews of standard operating practices (SOP's) in the areas of safety, quality and work flow to ensure low cost, high quality, efficient shop operation.
8. Ensure new associates receive proper training. All trainees receive a training plan, which includes a skill assessment and development audit, which is used for coaching and development.
9. Provides ongoing coaching, feedback and written performance appraisals to associates.
10. Provides input on or help in developing SOP's, training programs, budgets, and operating plans as requested.
11. Analyzes shop key factors and determines best practices for maximizing shop throughput and efficiency.



Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Have 3-5 years demonstrated leadership experience in Maintenance or related area.
2. Have BS degree, preferably in Business or Transportation.
3. Proven leadership experience.
4. Excellent problem analysis skills.
5. Disciplined planning and organizing skills.
6. Excellent communication skills.
7. Possess high stress tolerance.
8. Possesses mechanic skills, aptitude or interest preferred.
